Rental Requirements & Policies for Ute Hire

When picking up your ute rental, you’ll need to bring:

  • A full, valid driver’s licence
  • If visiting from overseas, you’ll also need an approved translation into English or an International Driving Permit (IDP)
  • A credit card for payment

Requirements may vary by location, such as restrictions on driving on unsealed roads or carrying certain heavy loads. It’s a good idea to double-check the specific regulations before booking or picking up your van.

You can add one extra driver to your booking at no extra cost. Each additional driver after that will incur a charge of $20 per driver, per booking. For all the details, make sure to review our rental information section to ensure a smooth start to your journey.

Locations & Availability

With locations in key cities like Tasmania, Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, the Gold Coast and Adelaide – as well as handy airport pick-up spots and one-way hire at select branches – your rental can start (and finish) wherever your job takes you.

What types of utes are available for hire? (e.g., single cab, dual cab)

When it comes to hiring utes, trucks, and commercial vehicles, you’re in good hands with Bargain Car Rentals. Our range of utes for hire is wide and well looked after – regularly cleaned, serviced, and ready to work when you are. Whether you’re after a tough single cab, a roomy dual cab, or a 4×4 to handle trickier terrain, we’ve got just the thing to get the job done.

What’s the difference between a single cab and a dual cab ute?

When choosing between a Single Cab and a Dual Cab ute to hire, it really depends on what you need. If your main priority is having the longest load area for carrying tools, equipment, or other gear, then a Single Cab is your best bet.

If you’ll be regularly driving with passengers, a Dual Cab (also known as a Double Cab or Crew Cab) is the way to go. It offers extra seating in the back for passengers, while still providing plenty of load space, just not quite as much as the Single Cab. Think about how you plan to use the ute, and that should help you decide which one suits you best.

Are automatic and manual utes available for hire?

At Bargain Car Rentals, we only offer automatic utes for hire.

How much does it cost to hire a ute?

From just $125, you can hire a ute from Brisbane, Sydney, Adelaide, Gold Coast, Melbourne and Sunshine Coast.

What are the age requirements for hiring a ute?

If you want to hire a ute, you’ll need to be over 21 years old and have a full current driver’s licence.

Do I need a special licence to drive a ute?

Generally, you don’t need a special license to drive a ute (utility vehicle) in Australia, as long as it weighs less than 4.5 tonnes. A standard driver’s license (class C) will usually do the trick.

If the ute is heavier than 4.5 tonnes, you might need a heavy vehicle license (class HR or MR), depending on the size and weight. And if you’re driving a ute with a high towing capacity or using it for commercial purposes, there could be extra requirements to keep in mind.
